Rustic Americana Decorated Cookie Collection

Today is Memorial Day….so this is my way of honoring those who have given so much for Americans to remain free.

Hurray for the red white and blue.
I’m a proud American and happy to create this rustic Americana set of cookies.

There’s something about patriotic designs that always make me want to “antique” them and make them more vintage. It’s pretty easy to add age to a decorated cookie. Just allow it to dry overnight and then make a thin mixture of brown dust and alcohol….dab it all over the cookie and then blot it with a clean cloth.

May God bless America.

Happy Independence Day 2017 Decorated Cookie Collection

As we celebrate the birth of our great nation and enjoy the sweet freedom that was acquired from it's formation, may we be thankful for all that we have each and every day.

God bless America!

Sweet Freedom Patriotic Decorated Cookie Collection

As I looked through my patriotic cookie cutters, I couldn't help but keep seeing all the sweet treat cutters that would be so fun to decorate in red, white and blue patterns. Thus, the Sweet Freedom collection was created.

Many of these cutters are some of my favorites, so I thought I share where I got them in case you'd love to acquire them too.

Firework Rocket Decorated Cookies (Tutorial)

And the rockets red glare.....the bombs bursting in air........ 🎇

I love to make a grouping of cookies that display lots of color and pattern.
Firework rockets were a perfect choice for that.

You could use any cutter  that has a long rectangle of some sort in it. You just need to cut one end to have a point for the rocket. (see photo below)
Using this pencil cutter requires no extra cutting at all.

Outline and flood the body of the rockets with fun red, white and blue patterns using wet-on-wet technique.

Add the rocket tops and any additional details to the rocket body.
Pipe a stick or a fuse to the bottom of the rocket.
(see photo below)

Add the sparks to each rocket fuse in white glaze.
Allow the cookie to dry overnight.

Mix silver dust with vodka or clear extract (ex. almond extract) to paint over the fuse sparks.

And now it's time to light the fuses and watch the fireworks....... :)

Patriotic Quilt Cookies (Tutorial)

Pieced cookie "quilts" have been a favorite project of mine.
I've done them a multitude of ways.

Recently I stumbled across this fondant tool that works perfectly
to make stitch marks that emulate quilting.

Once you've decorated the "quilt blocks", allow them to dry for about two hours.

Using the "fondant quilter", press into the crusted glaze to give it a quilted look.

To make these patriotic themed quilt blocks take on a vintage tone,
brush some black and/or ivory luster dust on them.
