Personal Side

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas......
Well.....at least the spread of cookies I did this week do. :)

I'm super excited about so many things going on.....

I love the holiday season......so the thought of Christmas is exciting.
I start decorating in a couple of weeks......YEAH!

I just found out a few weeks ago that I'm going to Italy in May 2014 to teach cookie decorating.
I still keep wondering if it is just a dream.....and not real.

It looks like there is going to be another wedding around here.....oh my!

And on and on it goes.......

Never a dull moment.
I was having dull moments often (no complaints!) and now they don't exist anymore. haha

Next week.......more Christmas cookies.
I'm going to try a non-traditional color motif and see what happens.

Instagram photos for this week:

After my epic "Indian corn failure" a few weeks ago,
I think I've found a fix. :)
Just in case....I did it five different ways to find the best way.
Stay tuned for a tutorial on all five versions. :)

SweetWorks is awesome!
I get the pleasure of using lots of their products on my cookies
and in my photo shoots.  Excited!!

A whole lotta pumpkin cookies 'round here. :)

Indian Corn.....a multitude of versions to ensure I found one I liked. :)

It's that time of year.......pies!

Ride 'em Cowboy Cookie Collection

With the challenge to make cowboy boot cookies for my pastor's retirement party......
I got all CRAZIE and made a whole collection of cookies to go with the boots.
I know you are SO surprised. haha

Here's the actual set I gave my pastor as a gift.......in a beautiful BRP box, of course. :)

Cowboy Boot Cookies (Tutorial)

After serving 40 faithful years to our church, my pastor retired last month.

There were lots of special events done in his honor.
One was a men's breakfast where they did a pastor "roast".

For the centerpieces at the tables, they pulled together lots of things that represented Bro. Pat.
My pastor wears cowboy boots most of the time,
so I was asked to make a cowboy boot cookie for each table.

I used THIS cutter......cutting off the spur.

Outline and flood the entire boot with brown (or black....or whatever color chosen) 10-second glaze.

After it has dried for more than 1 hour, press a texture mat into each boot's glaze.
I used a combination of the cobble stone and sand textures in this set.
Also take a long thin tool (like a cake tester) and add a seam down the boot side (as shown below).

Allow the base to dry for 2 or more hours (to prevent bleeding).
Add details like the white pointed pattern and the rectangle at the top.
(Study whatever boot you're trying to emulate for custom designs.)
Also add the black heel and sole line (as seen below).

After the cookies have dried overnight, use a black food color marker to add stitches
down the seam and around the heel and sole.

It was fun to add some special love to the event by making these boot cookies to honor my pastor. :)

CookieCrazie's Week in Review

Personal Side

Another good week of cookie decorating.
I did FIVE versions of Indian corn this week.....lol
I"m trying to redeem that awful attempt I had a few weeks ago.

And then I made some pumpkins and some Thanksgiving pies.
Fun!

We started learning our Christmas music in church choir......
so that makes me feel a little better about starting Christmas cookies next week.
I'm going to be scouring over saved photo ideas and
then google lots of things to put in cookie form.
The planning stage is so fun.
Once I get the "plan".......and start making the cookies.....
I have a "freak out" stage where I start saying, "What was I thinking?!".
But usually by taking one step at a time.....
and learning to make good on things that don't necessarily turn out as planned.....
and PRAYING TONS......
the cookies turn out the way they are supposed to.
It may not be as I envisioned, but then.....it's not about me. ;)

November 1.......wow.
As my mother-in-law just said to me on the phone.....
it is going to be Thanksgiving before you know it
and then suddenly Christmas will be here.
Yep. It happens over and over.
The time is flipping by so quickly.

Savor the moments.
Today....I took time to go out on the porch with a hot drink and
sit and listen to the rain falling.
It was only a few moments......but it was such a joy to stop and savor.

Instagram photos for this week:

So thankful for a new day and a blessed life. :)

One of my cookie projects this week.... Any guesses?

Happy Monday!

 Preparing for spring....
A nice change from autumn colors. :)

Jean Pocket Cookies (Tutorial)

Sometimes cookie themes evolve......from something simple.....to a cascade of related shapes.
Haha.....I have trouble knowing when to say enough-is-enough.

I was making some western boot cookies for a special occasion......
and suddenly I found myself surrounded by a myriad of western/southwest themed cookies.

I came across a cute idea I'd seen others do with a jean pocket.

No need for a special cutter.
Just cute a square and go from there.

Outline and flood the pocket with a muted blue shade of 10-second glaze.
Allow it to dry for at least an hour before adding the pocket top layer.

If desired......you can add a brad or a tag to make the pocket look even more authentic.
And for extra detail (see I told you.....sometimes I just don't know when to stop....),
add a bandana in the pocket. :)

After the cookie has dried overnight,
paint on some "stitches with a paint brush and some white food color gel.

Check out SugarBelle's awesome tutorial on doing bandana print.
