Wood Planked Wall Cut-Out Decorated Cookie (Tutorial)








Rustic wood-looking cookies are all the rage.
Here's a super easy version to try.



Hand cut out a large long rectangular chocolate cookie (recipe).
With a cake tester, make impressions down the length of the cookie to represent planks.
(see photo below)
Cut two planks that are the same width as the width of your rectangle.
Place them across the top and bottom of the rectangle as seen below.
Finally, cut out a heart shape out of the middle of the rectangle.





Bake and cool the cookie as usual.

Make up a mixture of powdered sugar with Americolor white food color gel.
Roughly paint it all over the wood planked rectangle.

Floppy-Eared Bunny Decorated Cookies (Tutorial)





Floppy-eared bunnies are the cutest. :)

To simplify them in cookie form use a long rectangle cookie for their faces.

To give the cookie a distressed painted look,
start by outlining and flooding the cookie with a medium colored glaze.
Tan and pink were used in the featured cookies, but I preferred those with a tan base.

After at least 30 minutes, add two large dots for the eyes, as shown below.


Allow the cookies to dry overnight.

Paint the cookies with Americolor Bright White color gel.
The more strokes added, the better......to give it that distressed look.


Roll out some pink edible clay between parchment paper.
Freeze for 1 hour.
Cut out small hearts for the bunny noses.


Allow the cookies to dry overnight.

Use an Americolor black marker to color over the tops of the dots for eyes.
If desired, add some pink "blush" to the bunny cheeks with pink dust.
Use the fine tip of a Rainbow Dust double-sided pen (Jet Black) to make the mouth and eyebrows.


For the floppy ears, roll out white edible clay between parchment paper and freeze for 1 hour.
Cut random oblong ears and attach to the tops and sides of the cookie as seen below.


If desired, freeze some rolled out pink edible clay, and 
cut out an "inner ear" to place in the center of the white clay.

Mixed Media on Cookies




Mixed Media.....the new craze.
Apparently it has been around quite a while in the art world,
but Pamoda of Sugar Pearls Cakes and Bakes has brought it to the forefront in the cookie world.

She has done two tutorials that knock the idea out of the park!


The beauty of mixed media is how each decorator can personalize them to her/his own tastes.
I'm certain, you would never see two that looked alike.....

As soon as I saw Pamoda's tutorials, I went right to work creating my own versions.
Here's my two attempts.
They are very eclectic, but then.....they are supposed to be. ;) 








Mixed Media Cookie Collections

Wood Plank American Flag Cookies (Tutorial)





Having seen so many perfectly joined cookie "puzzles" in recent days,
I was always discouraged because once I baked the dough pieces that were to fit together,
they always baked up "wonky" and never matched up well together.

But then I learned the secret.
You cut the pieces, bake them together,
and while the cookies are still hot out of the oven,
re-cut all the pieces.

I had a perfect opportunity to try out my new baking tip with this "wooden" Americana flag.


With it's homespun look, there was no need for precision.
So I just cut a huge random rectangle cookie.
From the rectangle, cut out a star corner and thin wooded planks that will represent the stripes.
(see photo below)

Once they've baked together, carefully re-cut all the pieces.
They will then fit together beautifully!

Outline and flood the corner square with blue glaze.
Outline and flood the wood blanks with alternating red or white stripes.
(see photo below)


After the blue square has dried for at least an hour, add a random white star over its top.



Dry the cookies overnight.

Make a mixture of chocolate brown, gold, and white gel colors to form a dirty tan color.
Using a fan brush, brush across all surfaces to give them a wooden look.
