Pink & Aqua Texture Mat Heart Cookies (Tutorial)






I'm always on the lookout for new silicone molds to continue to vary the way I use edible clay.
I found a new supplier, Derya of Party Train Cake Supplies,
who has all kinds of awesome tools and products that I "needed" to try. :)

For these Valentine Heart Cookies I used the following molds:
All three of these molds can be used to emboss/mold cookie dough (before baking) or
to mold edible clay to add on top of baked cookie dough or dry glaze-flooded cookies.

This pearl heart cookie (photo below) was created by loading dough into the pearl mat,
freezing it for about 10 minutes, peeling back the mat from the dough,
and then cutting out a heart shape.
After baking and cooling the cookie,
apply any type of luster dust (mixed with vodka or clear extract) for a pretty finish.

For this cookie, I painted it with Americolor Bright White gel and then after it dried,
painted on some pearl luster dust mixed with vodka.




For the hydrangea and pleat molded cookies, 
I flooded the rest of the cookie and left the embossed part bare to be painted later.
See photo below.


Once the flooded glaze has dried overnight, paint the embossed portion as desired.
The hydrangeas were painted with white and pink foodcolor gel,
and the pleat was painted with white foodcolor gel.

If your going to mold edible clay with the silicone molds,
outline and flood the entire heart cookie and allow it to dry overnight.

The next day, load the mold with edible clay, freeze it for about one hour,
and then carefully peel back the clay from the mold.
Working quickly (since the frozen clay will be warmed by your hands and become misshaped),
carefully place the strip across the heart cookie and trim the sides.
Or cut the molded clay with a cookie cutter and place it on top of the cookie.


Molded edible clay will need to dry for 24-48 hours on the cookie
(depending upon thickness of the mold) before it can be packaged.
