Birthday with SHINE Decorated Cookie Collection

I love to fit an updated birthday cookie set in between all the seasonal cookies.....just to try out new cutters, techniques and products for one of the most common cookie needs around.....BIRTHDAY!

For this set, I chose to feature silver with pretty blues and a touch of peach.

Hopefully this set finds one of you with a birthday close by so you feel the birthday love and enjoy the sentiment. I wish I could send your the cookies through the computer/phone screen. :)

Birthday Cake Slice Decorated Cookies (Tutorial)

Since birthday cookies are probably one of the most common cookies decorated, I always want to make a set from season to season to incorporate the latest things I've learned. I had an even deeper incentive in that LilaLoa's new cutters just became available, and I was anxious to try the new shapes out.

This is the LilaLoa cake slice cutter.
When I decorated it, I didn't realize that the large hump at the top was supposed to be a candle flame. Oops. Oh well.....I made it my own by just making it be a huge dollop of icing.

I wanted to add more dimension in these cookies, so I added a thin extra layer of dough to the icing part of the cake slice. (see photo below)

Once the cookies are baked and cool, outline and flood the top icing portion. Add any design you'd like to make it fancy.

Outline and flood the bottom cake portion with a plain-er color (in this case white). Allow it to dry for 15-20 minutes and then take a cake tester and make some horizontal cut lines down the side of the cake portion. (see photo below)

Add Icing color down the left side of the cake to make it complete.

Birthday Decorated Cookie Sets

From time to time, I get wind of a friend anticipating a birthday, and decide to create a surprise set for them.

My favorite go-to cutters are:

  • Cupcake
  • Cake Stand
  • Candle
  • Confetti (snowman/baby rattle found in Sugarbelle's Shape Shifters set)
  • Balloon (pirate face/whale found in Sugarbelle's Shape Sifters set)
  • Gift Bag (shopping bag in Gone Shopping Collection from Creative Cookier)

It's super fun to customize the set for the birthday girl/boy's preferences in colors and shapes.

Happy Birthday one and all! ❤️

Pedestal Cake Cookies (Tutorial)

I've been wanting to get a pedestal cake cutter for some time.
I finally splurged and got this one from Plastics In Print.

There's a variety of ways to decorate this cookie.
Here's just a few examples.

There is at least 15 minutes between each step.

Oh the joy.......Love the versatility and whimsy-ness of this shape. :)

Special Occasion Calendar Cookie (Tutorial)

Calendar cookies can be used for any special occasion.....birthday, graduation, wedding,
baby shower, anniversary, real estate closing day, retirement, etc.

These cookies only require a square cookie, white & light grey 10-second glaze
and a set of food color markers.

Outline and flood the cookie with white glaze.
Immediately add light gray calendar lines and small numbers in the corner.
(The numbers will depend on the date you are trying to highlight.)
Allow cookies to dry overnight.

Add embellishments to your calendar with markers to personalize the date being celebrated.
