Rustic Americana Decorated Cookie Collection

Today is Memorial Day….so this is my way of honoring those who have given so much for Americans to remain free.

Hurray for the red white and blue.
I’m a proud American and happy to create this rustic Americana set of cookies.

There’s something about patriotic designs that always make me want to “antique” them and make them more vintage. It’s pretty easy to add age to a decorated cookie. Just allow it to dry overnight and then make a thin mixture of brown dust and alcohol….dab it all over the cookie and then blot it with a clean cloth.

May God bless America.

Primitive Heart Patriotic Bunting Decorated Cookies (Tutorial)

A patriotic bunting is a perfect decor to add to an Independence Day celebration.
And with this long heart cutter from That's A Nice Cookie Cutter,
it's fairly easy to make one with cookies.

You'll need to cut four long hearts and bake them sitting side-by-side
in order for them to fit well together after baking.

Once the cookies are baked and cooled,
outline and flood 2/3s of the bottom portions of the hearts with navy glaze.
Outline and flood the very top of the heart lobes with red glaze.
(see photo below)

Allow the glaze to dry for at least 2 hours.
Use a mini star cutter to impress the top middle of the navy glaze as seen below.

Outline and flood the uncovered portion of the hearts with white glaze.
Add a star with white glaze using the outline from the cutter impression done in the prior step.
(see photo below)

Allow cookies to dry overnight.
If desired, brush some dry caramel luster dust over the hearts to give it a rustic look.
