Happy Valentines Day Decorated Cookie Collection

Valentines Day is such a fun holiday to decorate cookies..... for multiple reasons. First of all, it is the day to express love, and since cookies do that every day of year, it just makes sense to make cookies for the ones we love and cherish. And then, there is a bazillion ways to decorate heart cookies and the like to customize them to each color combination and style.

I love choosing a sprinkle mix made by Sweets & Treats and then making a whole slew of cookies to match it. For this set, I used the Sweet Treats mix and added some red into it too. :)

I hope you can feel the love and enjoy the Valentines Day holiday. I'm sending lots of love within this blog post to all of you....

Valentines Gift Tag Decorated Cookies

My love for gift tag cookies has not waned a bit in the last year. I believe I have done them for nearly every season and occasion. haha I just can't get enough of them. The best part of the idea is that it is extremely versatile and customizable.

Here's my favorite gift tag cutters:

Trust me......once you start making them, they seem to sneak into every cookie collection. ;)

Golden Valentines Decorated Cookie Collection

It's funny.....every year I want to do both "formal" and "casual" Valentines cookies. Here's what I came up with for the fancy side of the holiday. haha

Gold always transforms a set of cookies. In fact, when my husband took some of these cookies to work (his co-workers are often the recipients of my projects), many said these were over-the-top of any I'd ever done. I don't know about that.....but I do know that when you add gold to a set, it definitely takes them to a more elegant status.

Starting the season with some golden love..... ❤️

Embossed Cookie Dough Valentines Decorated Cookies

As this Valentines season drew close, I really wanted to incorporate texture into the cookie dough before baking... to take advantage of that beautiful 3D look. Once you've rolled it into the dough and baked it, all you have to do is dust it to emphasize the impressions.

The most important part of this process is rolling the texture into the dough before baking. Here's a video (of a different project) showing how to place the texture mat face down on the dough and use the pressure of the rolling pin to make the impressions into the dough before baking it. The relevant part is at the very beginning of the video.

Once the cookies are baked and cooled, brush food coloring or dust over the surface to bring out all the details. For these Valentine cookies, I used Americolor Bright White gel for some and gold dust mixed with vodka for others.

After completing the dusting of the textures, embellish the cookies with layered patterns, mini cookies, or cut-out edible clay pieces.

The background texture really makes these cookies "pop".

Spring Basket Decorated Cookies (Tutorial)

In the past years, I've tried to achieve a basketweave-look on cookies using a multitude of techniques.
I think I've finally found a way that I'm very pleased with.

Using this awesome basketweave embosser, you can create the
effect directly on the cookie dough or over partially dried glaze.

Here's an example of embossing cookie dough before baking
and then making a cookie dough braid with this mold and adding it to the top of the cookie.

Once the cookie is cool after baking, brush it with various brown dusts to give it a rich basket look.
(Colors used here: caramel, deep brown, and chocolate)

To emboss partially dried glaze, outline and flood the cookie with glaze.
Allow it to dry for 4-5 hours.
Firmly press the embosser into the glaze.

Dry overnight.

Brush the weave with various brown dusts as described above.
(Colors used here: caramel, deep brown, and chocolate for the brown basket,
and less dust for the white basket.)

Mold some colorful "eggs" or flowers with edible clay to add to the top of the basket cookie.
