Personal Side

What an exciting week it has been!
And I can't believe that the first week of our Ukraine trip has already passed.
The time is flying by.
But so many wonderful things are happening.
God is blessing us right and left.....
and the people are soaking up all the encouragement we can give.
We are just finishing the women's retreat this morning.
It has been the most glorious one we have ever had.
I have had many opportunities to be with the ladies.....
more times without an interpreter than in the past.
And it has really helped me to see their hearts and share love with them without words.
It is amazing how we can communicate without knowing each other's language.

The ladies have had a fabulous time of Bible study, recreation and rest.
We were all pretty teary last night when we had our final session.
They gave me a beautiful gift and tribute.
I expressed my love and gratefulness for another opportunity to be with them.
But we don't know what the next year holds.....
so this could be our last time together.
I reminded them that I love them so much, and will come back if God allows.
And if not, I reminded them to remember all the promises of God no matter what they face.
As you can imagine.....many many tears were shed.
But also......love was abounding!

Today we go back to Borislav.
I am going to get to teach a few young ladies how to decorate cookies!
And then we start visiting about 40 homes in that area.
We have a wedding to attend this weekend.
And I'll be teaching parts of my Bible study in two different more settings this next week.
It will be extremely busy.....but very rewarding.
I look forward to sharing with you next week.....if we get some wifi time.
Sending you all my love and gratefulness!

Instagram photos for this week:

And we're off.....well sort of.
We are sitting at the gate watching the delay become so long that we may
miss our flight into Munich from Washington Dulles.
Prayers are welcome for a little travel miracle.

Some lovelies for your Friday.

A penny for your thoughts...... (Gumball Cookies from last year).
I've arrived in L'viv Ukraine and all is well. I'll post as I can.

Our first Sunday in Ukraine.....doing well and having a fabulous time.
(We haven't had internet in the in Borislav....but now we are at the women's retreat
and they have wifi in their lobby. 😊)
I'll post more soon.

A sunflower to brighten your Thursday....
A throwback from last year....

Blueberry Muffin Cookies (Tutorial)

Of all the cookies made for the Serving Mom Breakfast in Bed collection,
these blueberry muffin cookies are my absolute favorite.
They turned out just the way I envisioned them.

Start with a muffin-shaped cookie.
(Any cupcake cutter will work just fine.)

Using a medium brown 10-second glaze, outline and flood the top of the muffin.
Allow it to dry for at 30 minutes.
Add random swirls and blobs of the medium brown glaze all over the muffin top.

Please forgive me for forgetting to take photos of the muffin liner part of the cookie.
For the instructions on making the creases on the liner, check out this cupcake tutorial.
As seen in photos below, these muffin liners are done in a lighter brown glaze.
After it has dried for 1-2 hours, use a cake tester to make the creases.

Make some blueberry glaze-icing-transfers on parchment paper.
Start with dark navy glaze and make varying sized circles and ovals.
(see photo below)
Allow them to dry for about 30 minutes.

Outline a small circle some where on each blueberry.
Allow it to dry for a few minutes and then add a squiggly line around the circle
to resemble a real blueberry.

Allow the muffin cookies and the blueberry transfers to dry overnight.

Before "gluing" the blueberries to the cookies, brush some super pearl luster dust on them.

Add a dot of glaze to the back of them and randomly place them on the muffin tops.

Making a mixture of Americolor chocolate brown, gold, and Bright White gels,
paint on some highlight lines to the muffin liner.
Allow this to dry well (an hour or so).

Then brush some super pearl luster dust on the liner.

For the "crumb topping", mix demerara sugar and white sanding sugar together.
Brush a light layer of corn syrup over the brown muffin top and
immediately cover the muffin top with the sugar mixture.
Shake off the excess.

Flowers Cookie Pops (Tutorial)

In making the "Serving Mom Breakfast in Bed" cookies,
it only seemed fitting to make some flower cookies to put in a vase for the place setting.

I've not been one to like making real "cookie pops" (cookies on a stick).
Instead, I've always made "fake cookie pops instead.

But for this occasion, I chose to make the real deal.

Rather than bake the sticks in the cookies,
indent the side of the cookie with the end of the stick so you can "glue them together" later.
(see photo below)

Once the cookies are baked, you can decorate the cookies without having the stick attached.
(Trust me.....the stick can really get in the way!)

After the cookies have dried overnight, you can add a bit of glaze to the end of the stick and
and push it up into the hole made prior to baking to glue the stick to the cookie.

Notice I added some extra glaze to the back of the cookie to ensure the stick stayed in place.

For the actual display, I placed the sticks within decorative straws for a special extra touch.

Bacon Cookies (Tutorial)

It's been a while since I've posted a cookie tutorial related to
Serving Mom Breakfast in Bed.....a COOKIE Breakfast.

One of the most popular cookies in that collection was BACON.
It seems that bacon is all-the-rage these days.
And for good reason.......it is delicious! :)

Making bacon look realistic on a cookie is WAY HARDER than I ever imagined.
Getting the colors "just right" is the hardest part.

There is no way to begin to tell you how to get the most authentic colors.......
but I can at least describe to you how I decorated the cookies.

To make the bacon cookies.......cut long rectangles, and then scrunch them up around the edges
and lay them willy-nilly over wadded up foil to give them that curvy look.
Bake as usual.

I made three different 10-second glaze colors: dark & medium reddish brown, and light tan.

Outline and flood one side of the bacon strip with the dark brown glaze.
With medium brown glaze, outline and flood some inner portions of the strip (see photo below).
And finally, with the tan glaze, fill in the rest of the strip of bacon.
(There's no need for long dry times since bleeding is perfectly acceptable in this case. :))

Allow the cookies to dry overnight.

Using a dry paint brush, add smears of black and bronze pearl dust to the bacon strips.

Brush on a thin layer of corn syrup and sprinkle black sanding sugar (pepper!) on each strip of bacon.

Personal Side

Last weekend was delightful.
Everyone came together.....got all fancied up......and we celebrated.
Only a couple of small glitches on wedding day.....nothing that couldn't be remedied easily.

Then, it was sad to say goodbye to each of my kids as they all departed back to "reality".

But now I'm back in the saddle.....working on Father's Day cookies this week.
It's been fun.
I used my airbrush again.....and love the vintage-feel it gave the cookies.

Allison just cleaned out her bedroom here today.
Once we get it freshened up......it will be my COOKIE DECORATING SUPPLY room!
I'm excited. :)

Next week, I'm taking another week off from cookies to concentrate on Ukraine trip prep.
Our trip is planned for August 14 through 29.
I am doing the Bible study, so I need to "sequester" myself and get that pulled together. :)
If you think of it, say a prayer for me to find God's message for the Ukrainian women this year.
It should be interesting to spend time with them.....
considering the turmoil their country has gone through this year...

Instagram photos for this week:

Happy, happy, happy.....lunch with my boy.
