CookieCrazie Chatter...... Friday, November 30, 2012

CookieCrazie's Week in Review

Personal Side

The week started out great.
But on Wednesday, my computer got sick.....and things have gone downhill. :(
Boy.....we depend on these crazy things way too much!
Probably 60-70% of the things I go to do.....I can't because they are on the computer!

Thankfully it is not so bad that I can't access my content at all.
But my PC crashes easily......so it makes for major frustration!
And everything takes FOREVER to do.

I had plans for a big reveal on Thursday for my latest custom cookie cutter.
I've had 18 wonderful cookie friends join me in the project.
But I had to delay it because I can't get on this dumb thing long enough to pull the project together. :(
Hopefully we'll do it next week.

In the meantime......my computer guru son says he'll try to fix it.
If he can't do it, I either pay someone to do it, or go buy a new computer.
That seems crazy since this one is only about a year old.
But I NEED my computer. lol
Not only do I use it for cookie-ing.......
I blog with it, shop with it, do our budget and taxes with it......
and much of my "entertainment" is here as well.
Since I don't watch TV or movies or sports.....
I found that the PC is my entertainment.
I read lots of things about cookies here.
I read blogs.
I look at Pinterest.
There's always something to do.......

Thankfully I had an excellent cookie week.
I made a huge batch of gingerbread cookies and had a FABULOUS time decorating them.
I can't wait to show you!

Hopefully next week I'll be typing this on a healthy computer. ;)

Christmas music is blaring.....all the trees are lit in the house.....and now there is a glorious aroma coming from the oven. I'm lovin' this afternoon in the kitchen. :)

This. Is. Not. Good.
I can't get my PC to run a full scan to get rid of all the threats. :(
sigh.....and I had so much to do on the PC today.
I've gotten the blue screen of death twice this morning.....probably going to be a rough day. Ugh!

Despite the dumb PC problems, at least it's a good cookie day. It's all about the cookies. :)

Still have a sick PC. :( But my appliqué is working. :)

Christmas Cookie Card Project

Instructions.....
Pick a favorite Christmas card and make cookies to emulate it.
Fun!

I had such fun joining a bunch of other cookie decorators in
Haniela's Christmas Card Cookie Project.

I found this card and wanted to make a 3D cookie version of it.

I'll be sharing a tutorial on how I made the tree.....including ornaments.....next week.

Until then, check out all the awesome Christmas Card cookie entries.

BRP Box Shop.....Limited Edition Cookie Ornament Box

I had the distinct privilege to work with BRP Box Shop
to help create a cute little Christmas-y cookie ornament box.
It was debuted at CookieCon.....and from what I hear......it is a big hit. :)

The box comes in  both white and brown:

2 3/4" x 2 3/4" x 2 3/4" Cookie Ornament Box White/White With Window

2 3/4" x 2 3/4" x 2 3/4" Cookie Ornament Box Brown/Brown With Window

As you will see.....I had a blast filling these little babies up. :)

It holds about 12 mini cookies and would make a perfect gift.
Plus, it hangs on the Christmas tree nicely.

I thought it held my 3D mini Christmas tree perfectly.

The original boxes we tested were more generic.

And everyone at CookieCon loved the idea of the "plainer" version for all year long.

So be sure to let BRP Box Shop know what you'd like to see them carry.
They are a cookie decorator's friend.....wanting to design boxes that YOU will use.
Their email address is: boxshop@bigriverpackaging.com
Tell them CookieCrazie sent you. :)

The Christmas version of this box is a limited version test run....
so get 'em while they are still available.

Visit BRP Box Shop for all your box needs.

(This bias you are observing is purely because I think BRP is AMAZING!
They did not pay me to say all this.
I just happen to think very highly of the company and their products.)

Personal Side

It's so hard to believe that Thanksgiving is now past.
But oh what a wonderful holiday we had!!

We are just starting to build our own immediate family traditions.....
so they are still not set in stone.
But since our family starts growing in a few weeks to add Becca,
Neil's fiance, we figure it is time to settle into some tradition. :)

We decorated the 12' Christmas tree on Wednesday night after having a yummy dinner together.
There was lots of laughing and joking around.
We were even able to skype Keith into the great room......
so the whole family was together for that evening.
I made monster cookies (a long time fave Christmas cookie of the family's)
and wished I could share them through the phone to Keith.
He's one of my biggest cookie lovers.
But at least he got to feel close to home in his lonely college dorm.

Yesterday (Thanksgiving Day) morning we had brunch.
I know that is kind of weird.....but it was my solution to allowing everyone
to go to other Thanksgiving celebrations with their special someones.
It was fun.....but too short.

Neil left last night to return home.....so things were a little sad for me.
I love the coming together, but when we all go back to our own little worlds......
it is a bit depressing.

Today I'll be making lots of fun plans for Christmas cookies.
I get to make Christmas cookies the next two weeks......
and then I have to start working on wedding cookies.
December is going to be a very FULL month.

I'm thankful.....

Fresh cut trees.....

Faces of Christmas peeking into Thanksgiving week.....waiting patiently to make their appearance. :)

News flash......Allison is actually eating one of my cookies today. This is a very rare thing. Generally she doesn't like them. I told her I had to take her photo and post it..... This was her cost for one cookie. ;)

Thanksgiving brunch with cookies......of course! Happy Thanksgiving everyone. :)

Thankful Turkey Cookies (Tutorial)

To make Thankful Turkey cookies you will need:

For turkey body, cut the bottom off the smallest babushka cutter.
For the feathers, use a 10 petal flower cutter and cut off the bottom two petals.
For a more 3D look, add a bit of shaped dough for the beak on the turkey before baking (see below).

Outline and flood the turkey body brown, and add two black sugar pearls for eyes while still wet.

After it has dried for an hour or two, add the red gobbler.
Color the dough beaks with yellow glaze or
allow to dry overnight and then color in with yellow food color marker.

Outline and flood the feathers in steps.
I started with the red feathers so that the red glaze could dry well (to prevent bleeding).
After an hour or more, add the orange feathers and then the yellow feathers.

Allow them to dry overnight.

"Glue" the turkey body onto the feathers with some glaze.

May your week be filled with gratitude. :)

P.S. I'm thankful for YOU!

One of things that always comes to mind when I think of Thanksgiving.....

Football!

Here's a set I made for my nephew when I visited Florida in September.
Obviously.....he's a Gators fan. ;)

Personal Side

It's been a wonderfully productive week. I love those kind!
I got most of my Christmas decorations up in my house.
And since I did it quicker than I thought I would.....
I had time to decorate both Thanksgiving & Christmas cookies.
Yeah!

Our Thanksgiving plans are solidified.....
and now we are starting to make all our Christmas plans too.
Since my son's wedding is the week after Christmas,
it is necessary to make sure we can fit everything in. lol

Thanks for following my blog and being supportive of my work.
I appreciate you!

It's looking like Christmas around here. My baking tree is officially up. :)

Poor lonely cookie tree. It's the only one not decorated.
I need to get crackin' on some Christmas cookies!!!

The best grain free cookie I've ever made.....chocolate chip..... YUM!!
Recipe is here.

Such a nice view from my kitchen sink.
Clean up doesn't seem near as bad with a winter wonderland around me. :)

Now that's more like it. :)

Hahaha.... I've been decorating trees all week for my house
and now I've just created MORE to decorate in glaze. lol

Ummm.....building a forest is a lot harder than I thought. : /

The tour-kees are coming together. :)
