Simply Christmas Cookies: Christmas Light Bulb (Tutorial)

To make lightbulb cookies you will need:
Outline and flood the bulb part of the cookie with your color of choice.
If desired, add a "shine line" on the side of the bulb while the glaze is still wet.

Allow the bulb color to dry for at least an hour before adding the gold base (to prevent bleeding).

Outline and flood the bulb base with gold glaze.

Allow to dry for about 1 hour and then using a long narrow tool (I used a cake tester)
make line impressions in the partially crusted glaze.

Allow to dry overnight.
Mix gold luster dust with almond extract and paint onto the gold base of the bulb.

Love your blog! I am new to cookie decorating and have found I like using a sugar glaze better than royal icing too. Of course I run into the problems you mention on here (like red bleeding into EVERYTHING - grrrrrrrrrrrrr!) recently it has been sink holes when filling in small areas. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your knowledge and write tutorials - they are priceless for someone like me :) I look forward to visiting often! ~ Trish

I love them! Christmas lights are a favorite of mine... I just did my own version of Christmas lights on my blog, although mine are tiny. Love yours and all of your cookies! (side note... thanks to you I put a DoBoard on my Christmas list and I think someone got it for me - so excited!)

Well as it turns out... my dad was going to get it for me but when he tried to order it they sent him a notice saying they were out of stock and don't know if they will be back in stock because the company might stop manufacturing them! So I'll have continue with what I have. Not the end of the world, but I was excited! Anyway hope you had a Merry Christmas - I'd love if you checked out my cookies sometime!
