Autumn Has Arrived!

Fall is here! Yippee. I love this time of year.....the chill in the air.....the beautiful colors and wonderful smells. There's nothing like it.

I made a few fall cookies a few weeks ago. Thought I'd show you a few before I go out of town.

I'll be back next week to show you lots more cookies.

Happy 18th Birthday, Allison

So my youngest of five has just turned 18. Yikes.....where has the time gone?

Allison will always be my baby. :) She's a pretty special young lady. I knew she would enjoy some very special cookies for her birthday.....so I went all out. First the Vera Bradley inspired cookies....and then some other very distinct cookies for my girl.

Allison LOVES Starbucks coffee and frapuccinos. In fact, everyone knows she loves it so much....that she ended up with $55 worth of Starbucks gift cards for her birthday. hee hee

And then her fifth appendage.......her Blackberry. :)

The Allison's 18th Birthday Collection......

I'll be going out of town on Wednesday.....and be gone for nearly week.....so I'm not sure how much blog time I'll have before I leave. But I promise to try to post one more time before I go.

Allison's Favorites

My daughter, Allison, had her 18th birthday last week. Wanting to make some of her favorite things in cookie form.......I started with inspiration from one of her newest "loves".......Vera Bradley.

I'm very conscious of licensed and copyrighted materials, and go so far as to refuse anyone that asks me to do licensed characters like Disney, etc. So I was determined to only use VB as my inspiration.....and not actually copy any of their work.

Stay tuned for more of Allison's favorite things in my next post. :)

Baby Shower......Girl Buggies, Bottles, and Rattles

I think I've done more baby shower cookies than any other kind of cookie. Thankfully I never grow tired of them. :)

In this same batch of cookies/icing....I also made some random flower cookies for a surprise to some ladies who were coming to my house to talk about their upcoming Ukraine trip.

Here's the very girl-y bottles and rattles

and baby carriages.

Guess what kind of cookies I'm making this coming week?
You guessed it!
Baby shower cookies....hee hee hee. :)

Owls......The Big Rage

So have you noticed.....there's a big owl craze right now? I remember when I was first married ('79) that owls were really "in". The biggest difference back then was that they were the more natural ones or in earth tones. (Wow....I feel so old!)

Owls these days are in bright colors and usually have lots of cuteness factor. :)

I did some owls for sweet little Nora's birthday party.

First the party favors.......

Then the larger owl for the cake....

And here's the cake....decorated by the Nora's momma.

I made some flowers to go with the owls..... just for the fun of it. :)

Our weather has been fall-ish all week......so I made some fall cookies to celebrate. I'll share them soon.

I LOVE fall!!!

Happy weekend!

Anniversary Cookies......Writing on Cookies

I did some 25th anniversary cookies last week. A friend wanted silver hearts with black letters on it.
It was not a very exciting cookie.....but I tried to dress it up with luster dust and give it a nice metalic sheen.

Many people ask how to get the gray color. I use a tiny amount of Americolor Super Black to make grey icing. (I've heard that using a small amount of Wilton Black gives you a purple color.....so be sure to use Americolor.)

For the metallic silver sheen, I brushed on dry silver luster dust after the base coat of gray was dry.

And finally.....on the subject of writing on cookies. I have had several people tell me lately that my handwriting is really nice on my cookies. I'm sorry.....but I have to laugh. You see....a couple of years ago, I complained about how bad my handwriting was on a cookie. And one of my best-est cookie friends gave me some very wise advice. She said to just do it. The more you do it, the better you'll get at it. And besides, as long as your letters are legible, people think it's fantastic....even if it doesn't meet your standards of neatness.

And I have found all of her advice very sound. I STILL think I stink at writing on cookies, but I just keep doing it and people continue to say that I do a nice job.

I guess my standards are too high. I want my writing to look beautiful......but apparently legible works. =)

So I share this with you if you are feeling inadequate in your writing on cookies.......

Just do it.
The more you do it, the better you'll get at it.
And as long as it is legible, people will think it is fantastic.

Houses and Moving Boxes

Still welcoming new neighbors.....

Boxes, boxes, and more boxes.....oh I remember it so well. And your garage is so filled with said boxes and stuff that you can't even park in your garage for a month or two. :)

Couldn't welcome our neighbors without a few houses included in the collection.....

My favorites are coming up next. Happy weekend to you.

The Keys to Welcoming Neighbors

Sorry for the pun.....but I couldn't resist. ;)

I saw this cool idea when I googled "house key". Fun!

Then the ordinary kind.....

Have a glorious Thursday. :)

New Neighbors

We have new neighbors behind us. They've been building their new house since March, and we've had nearly a front row view of the construction. Once the neighbors moved in.....I wanted to do something special to welcome them. I've been thinking of cookie ideas for months now.

Home Sweet Home hearts......

And some welcome mats.....
Lots more coming.....

I have a carriage cutter from Sweet Art Factory....but I wanted to make the main part more round, so I modified it.

Have a fantastic weekend everyone. :)

Time to Get "Back To Normal"

I've come to the conclusion that it is not possible to "get back to normal" after a death of a close loved one. In fact, I don't think things can ever be the same. You learn so much from watching death happen. Most of all....that life is SUPER precious. Today is a gift. Tomorrow is not guaranteed.....so you better live today to its fullest. Get rid of the bad attitude, the "I wish"es or the "I want"s and just be content and enjoy what you already have. Life is far better than we give it credit for. When you watch death.....you realize how good life is.

These last few days we've been so busy getting Pat's things in order that I haven't really dealt with the reality of the situation. But today, after saying good-bye to my dear sister, Carol, and her husband.....who are returning to their home in Florida.....I can tell it is going to be a sad day. Now I'll be alone most of the day trying to catch up on everything that got neglected in the last week. And the pain of loss suddenly is overwhelming. :(

And might I add.....I do NOT like saying good-bye....

I decided it was time to get moving on the blog again. I'm gone all this coming weekend to my in-laws....so if I waited until we returned on Monday.....it will be a REALLY long time being away. Besides, my cookie-ing is therapy for me......so it feels good to do something I love.

I had a small order of birthday cookies to do this week. It was tough to get them done.....but it was the most normal thing I did this week. I'm glad I took the extra effort to do it.

Back to princess cookies......they make me smile. :)

In my next post.....I'll show you how I created this carriage shape.

This is my favorite dress.

Hopefully I'll be able to post tomorrow before I leave on a trip to Memphis for the holiday weekend.

Thanks everyone. You all are the best!
