Octopus & Lobster.....oh my!

The final two critters in my ocean collection.

Who knew that octopus were electric green? lol

And this lobster cookie is HUGE at 7" tall! (My kids thought I was crazie to make such a large cookie.)

We're starting out HOT again this new week. They keep extending our excessive heat warning a few days at a time. It seems like weeks now. Hopefully at least the humidity will lessen. But at least we have nice bright cheery ocean cookies to brighten the day. :))))

Conch Shells and Starfish

OK....so now we are moving closer to the more "electric" assortment of ocean-themed cookies. :)

Conch shells.......I love how these turned out.....especially the white and orange one.

Starfish......trying that same trick of letting the icing dry a bit and then adding indentations.

Just wait until you see all the electric colors put together. :))))))

Shells and Sand Dollars

Another random day of decorating last week I created some ocean-related cookies.

I made some additional electric colors to go along with my pink and electric green from the quilts.....and created some bright shapes. Today's shells and sand dollars are on the boring side.....but stay tuned!

These shells did not turn out as I had originally envisioned......but they're OK. They were too much work for the results, though.

I'm pretty happy with the sand dollars. I tried to recreate what I saw in real photos of them. But then it was hard to photograph the indentations, so I tried every angle.

Much more sea cookies coming......

How To Build A Cookie Quilt

Just decorate a whole bunch of squares in all kinds of patterns......put them all together and there you have it...................your own yummy quilt. :)

Here's my favorite "quilt block"

Now after this quilt break, we'll get back to some more seasonable summer cookies tomorrow.

My Choice for a "Whatever Cookie I Want to Do" Day

Of course, quilts........I love to do them, and when I don't have any other cookies (seasonal or orders) I need to do.....then I often default to them. I especially wanted to do them this time because I had chocolate dough and love the black cookie background for the quilt. Just like the blue quilt cookies in my header....I wanted to do something similar, but use pink and electric green.

This one is a huge cookie......4 1/2" x 3 1/4". All the surface area allowed me to go crazie. lol

And here's my pink and electric green quilt collection....

Tomorrow I'll show you how I made individual quilt "blocks" and made a DIY giant cookie quilt.

Continue to Stitch Away.....

As you can imagine, I was having a fabulous time as I did these quilt cookies....and the colors made it all the more fun. :)

Next time I do stitches like those in "I (heart) quilts" I'll make it black on white instead of white on black. It is kind of hard to read the words on this cookie. : /

What fun!

I'll share final quilt photos tomorrow.

Summer Heat!

Summer is certainly not over, but I'll probably not do too many more summer cookies this season. My plate is full these next few weeks.....especially with baby showers. :)

So here's one final pic of summer cookies to celebrate the season.....AND the cooler temps forecast for the next week! :)

Stay as cool as you can......hopefully looking at ice cream cone cookies helps. ;)

Summery Fun

Here's some more summer cookies I tweaked last week.

I specifically looked up a real DQ cone just to make mine look like one. I just wish I would have gotten the cone color right. : /

My favorite flip flop so far this summer. :)

Happy Wednesday.....

A Day With Andrea (SugarEnvy)

I can't even begin to tell you how fun it is to meet with other cookie decorators and spend time together. Talk about instant friends! To finally find another person who understands this crazie cookie brain we possess and to enjoy talking cookies non-stop.......it is a treasure.

Last week I had the honor and privilege of meeting with Andrea (SugarEnvy). She was in town and I invited her to come to my house for an afternoon of decorating. Andrea is precious.....and I'm so thrilled to call her my friend. We instantly hit it off.....and were never lacking of things to talk about.

 Andrea (left) and Pam (right)

You'll have to check out Andrea's work. Wow.....wow....wow. She is amazing! She does designer shoes and wedding dresses like no other. Here's her website and her Flickr page

Decorating together was fun, fun, fun!
We each had five cookies to decorate. Andrea was at a disadvantage because she had to use my glaze instead of royal icing.....had to decorate from a bag instead of a bottle.....and she even stood at my breakfast bar like I do, rather than sit at a table like she usually does. (She said she wanted to have the full "Pam experience"!) But you'd never know that she was out her element. Her decorating is amazing! And isn't she gorgeous? :)

See that cute little pink and black cookie up in the left top corner. She made it for me. :) I still have it sitting up on a shelf in my desk so that I can look at it often and remember our fabulous day together.

Here's the pic she took of me with my cookies that I decorated that day.

Later I took a pic of that funky flower cookie I did that day. I like how it turned out. :)

What a wonderful day......and what a special lady. She's as beautiful on the inside as the outside. :)

A Young Boy's Dream..... Tool Cookies

A friend ordered a few tool cookies for a young boy with a birthday who loves tools and cookies. :)

I've done a hammer and screwdriver before....but this time I wanted to make some improvements.

Of course, I'm sure the birthday boy didn't care much what they looked like. ;o)

Happy Monday to you.

KopyKake (Pictorial).....and a bit more summer

I've had the pics for this little KopyKake pictorial for a couple of months....but am just now sharing it. Weird how time slips away without you even thinking about it.

I remember when I first heard of a KopyKake. It's basically a glorified "overheard projector" like we had in elementary school MANY years ago. lol) At first, I felt like using it to decorate cookies was kind of like "cheating". You see, I'm all about the decorator being the sole creator....and having to do it from one's own creativity and expertise.....not something doing it for you. I decided back then, that I would probably never get a KopyKake because I just didn't feel right about it. Then one of my good cookie friends' reply to my response was to ask me if using cookie cutters was cheating. Hmmm.....when she put it that way....I had to rethink my opinion.

And then a very kind supporter of my ministry offered to buy me one. Oh my! I was stunned that she offered specifically to buy me the very item I'd belittled in the past.

I came to the conclusion that the KopyKake is a helper.....a tool.....but it is not actually decorating the cookie.....*I* am. And I could see some very valid uses for it.....in particular for me......writing and special fonts.

SO......I've had my KopyKake for several months now, and even though I have only used it but 3-4 times, when I've used it, it has been a tremendous help. It helps with better perspective, symmetry, and precision. In some ways, it is more work to use it then not......but in those special cases, it is invaluable!

In May, I was asked to do some cross country symbol cookies for a graduation. So I whipped out my KK....and got to work.

You put your image up in the projection box and it appears down on the platform where you've placed your cookies. It's a pretty ingenious idea. :))))))

I just used the KK to outline the logo....and then filled it in on my own.

And the final cookie.......

So my thoughts on the KK......it is a very expensive tool that comes in very handy......but it is certainly a luxury for a cookie decorator. I don't think most people really need one. Only those who do lots of volume, lots of logos/characters, or lots of writing on cookies.

I did some more summer cookies this week.......just tweakin' them.

May you have a week full of blessings.......

Forty-Fifth Wedding Anniversary Cookies

I've never done wedding anniversary cookies before.......so it was fun to do my first order of them this week. The colors were ivory and sapphire.

Simple in design.....but I'm likin' em. :)

Stay cool on this blazin' Saturday......

Birds........

When ever I do a new design.....I look up lots of photos on Google and study them to try to find the best way to capture that particular shape. I was asked to do flowers and birds last week.....and wanted to try to do something a little different than I've done before.

My hummingbirds are the same as always. I've thought about giving more dimension to the wings.....but decided to just stick with what I know.

I love goldfinches......so that is what my mini bird cookies became. :)

And then finally my bluebirds. I love bluebirds too.....so this was really fun.

Next post.....flowers. Love them too! lol

Wedding Shower Dresses & Tuxes

I was asked to do the cute little heart cookies with bride dresses and groom tuxes. I had done them a LONG time ago, just for the fun of it, but this time I got to do them for an order. Fun!

The client didn't want tuxes.....but rather suits with ties. I did my best......but there still a bit sloppy. Precision is definitely not something I've mastered with glaze.

But the client was happy.....and that is all that matters, right? :)

I'm staying inside today.....doing cookies of course. ;) The heat index was 112 yesterday.....and is supposed to be as bad or worse today. Yikes!
