Ukraine..............Two Days!

Only two days until I leave for Ukraine. I still can't believe it is almost here. I'm so excited!

I made lots of small cookies to give to the Ukrainians. We'll have our first women's retreat next Monday through Wednesday.....and are expecting 50 + women there. And then we'll try to visit at least 50 homes of the seniors the rest of the time we are there. I have about 130 cookies.....so I think I'm covered. :)

I'm always trying to figure out what are the best shapes to do for UA. Some things we have in the States they wouldn't relate to at all. So I chose flowers, butterflies, ladybugs, and tea pots.

I'm hoping for one last post tomorrow before I leave on Thursday morning. I want to show you the fun cookies I made for my ministry team members.

Thanks for all your prayers, notes, and support! I really appreciate all of you so much. :)

DIY Paw Prints (Tutorial)

Want to make paw print cookies, but don't have the special cutter for it. No worries!

Do you have a flower and a circle cutter? Then you are ready to go. :)

Cut two petals off the flower cookie.

Cut a vertical slit in the middle of the straight edge you just make on the flower and pull it open.

Use your circle cutter to cut out all but the petals from the flower.

Place this piece around the circle so it is touching well. When you bake it, it will "meld" together.

Cover the entire cookie with a base color.....I chose white.

After it has dried well (I dried mine overnight, because I knew the blue would bleed into the white if it was just a little bit wet), you can add the pads of the paw print.

And there you have it......a paw print cookie without the special cutter. :)

Today was my final work day at the hospital......so now it's time to get very serious and efficient about readying for my trip. Tomorrow and Wednesday are going to be fun! The anticipation of something is probably the best part.......

Happy Memorial Day to you! Praise God for those that have given everything so that we can be free.

Graduation Cookies......Personalized

There's no easy way to jump from quilt/sewing cookies to personalized graduation cookies.....so I'll just do it. ;)

This order was for a young lady who is loves sports. She was an award winning cross country runner and played basketball. Her high school mascot is a cougar....thus the paw prints. She is attending the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) this fall. I made good use of my KopyKake when making the cross country symbol and the Ole Miss logo. I was very nervous, but they turned out OK.

I'm hoping to show you a pictorial on making the paw prints without the "official" cookie cutter in the next few days. I had to improvise to make a smaller version this time.

Oh......and expect to see lots of Christmas ornaments in the coming weeks. lol I did SIX sets of a 4 piece ornament cutter set from Fancy Flours that I'm entering in a decorating contest. The deadline for entry is Tuesday......so after that.....I can show them to you.

I just got done with the cookies for Ukraine last night. Things are coming together for the trip. :) I'm more than excited!

Quilt & Sewing Collection

The entire quilt collection together.......

And the entire quilt & sewing collection all in one photo.

I've been baking and decorating like a mad woman this week....and used my new camera on cookie pics yesterday for the first time. It's a dream! I'm so excited (and grateful!) to have such clear nice photos with such ease.

Only six days left until Ukraine trip. Today I'm working on 120+ small cookies to take to the Ukrainian people. I've got flowers, lady bugs, butterflies, and tea pots. :)

I'll try to keep posting up to the time I leave......but no guarantees. I have to work (hospital) tomorrow (Sat) and Monday. That's why I had to get all the cookies done before the weekend. Once I finish work on Monday.....I only have two full days to finish packing and be ready to leave Thursday morning. Within those two days, my daughter leaves for a 9 week summer missions trip to Cleveland and my son comes home from a 4 1/2 month mission trip to Africa. Talk about a crazie house!!
But it's all good. So thankful. :)

Quilt Hangin' On the Line :)

For a long time, I've wanted to emulate a graphic I have of a quilt hanging on a clothesline. I finally got to do it with that whole sewing/quilt set a few weeks ago. :)

Just one more week until I leave for Ukraine (June 1)!
If you'd like to follow my Ukraine blog, it is HERE. I just updated it a few minutes ago.

Happy Thursday. :)

Scissors to Cut Things Up (Tutorial) :)

Well you HAVE to have scissors if you're gonna make a quilt.

I didn't like the cookie cutter I had for a pair of scissors, so I printed out a picture of a good looking pair of scissors and made my own template.

First I made an outline of the entire pair of scissors. Then I filled in the handle.
(There should be some dry time in between each of these steps.)

To give the blades a 3D look, I filled in the lower blade first and let it dry.

Add a lighter color to the inside of the handles. I thought this gave them a more "real" look.

Add the upper blade....

Add the screw on top of the upper blade.....

Here's the fun part. Paint the blades with dry silver luster dust. I'd always done it wet before.....and I LOVE how much better it looks dry.
(Make sure your icing is good and dry before you do this step!)

And the finished cookies......

Guess what?! I got a new camera.......both for my Ukraine trips and for cookie photography! Since I'm not a photographer, I didn't want one that I'd have to take classes to use......so I opted for an awesome point and shoot. It's a Canon PowerShot ELPH 300 HS.
Ohhhhhh.....I can't wait to try it out on cookies this week. :) And it has quality HD video.....so you may start seeing some videos from me too. :))))))

I hope you have unmeasurable blessings this week.
I'm going to be VERY VERY busy (only 11 days until I leave for Ukraine), but I'll try to keep up here. :)

Cute As A Button (Tutorial)

Friday was my ultimate cookie play day. I had baked up some cookie shapes just because I wanted to......and then decorated them with delight.

I did a sewing/quilt theme......I know you are surprised. ;)

So now I get to start showing you all my fun cookies. :))))))))
I also took pics to show you how to make two of the cookie shapes.

Let the fun begin.....

Today, I want to show you how to make some cute button cookies.

Just take simple circles, any size, adding your button holes and outline.....and letting it dry.

Next flood the entire button (except for the button holes). I start off with a smaller tip (#2) and go around the button holes first.....then take a larger tip (#4) and flood the rest of the button. This will ensure that you don't over fill around the button holes and cause them to top over your dried outlines.

After the flood icing has dried a bit, you can add the rim around the outside edge of the button.....using the same color. And you can also add your first thread across one set of button holes. I've found that if I add both stitches at the same time, they tend to run together and not look as 3D. So I add one stitch, let it dry for a few minutes, and then add the other stitch.

The "cute" results. :)

Reminder.....You only have until Tuesday (May 17) midnight (CST) to enter the May Blog Give-Away. There's a chance to win a $50 gift certificate from Karen's Cookies and other prizes too.
