Need Some Grace....Things Don't Always Turn Out As Planned

I have to admit......I tend to only show you my best side. Who wouldn't? With complete control over which words are written....and which photos are shown on a blog, why would anyone show their "less than perfect (ha!)" side.

Well.....contrary to the words and images here that may give you the impression that every cookie I touch turns out OK.....you must know that there are plenty I don't show you. So forgive me for making you think I've got this cookie decorating thing all together. I do not. I work hard.....make lots of cookies, have learned LOTS.....but I certainly don't have success in all the cookies I do.

To prove it to you.....I'll show you my attempt of the gopher in the movie "Caddyshack". (Note to self: Just because you have a photo of an image doesn't mean you can recreate it on a cookie......even with a KopyKake!)

So here's the image I was given for reference. (I'm showing you this so that hopefully you can see a little similarity. lol)

And here's my attempt. I'm CRINGING as I'm downloading this. Please don't laugh!

Ugh! :(

All I can say is I've learned a lot from these cookies......what NOT to do.....and even what TO do. The main thing I learned is not to try to emulate a actual photo of an animal or person. This shows how much I am NOT an artist. As I've heard Callye say in the past, and I believe about myself.....I'm a replicator........but only of drawings and clipart. ;)

So.........to try to save face, I'll show you one of my better cookies from the golf set. I did these golf carts two years ago.....but I think I improved them quite a bit.

Here's the golf cart from 2009 (sorry for the not-so-good photo):

And here's the 2011 version:

OK....I think I've stopped cringing now. :)

Don't cringe, Pam.....hubby works on golf carts and your 2011 cookies just look like a "new & improved" model.....cars, carts, they all change from year to year! These golfing cookies are super!
Blessings, Donna B.

It's nice to know that you are human and make mistakes like the rest us, having said that, I don't see anything wrong with that first cookie at all! I LOVE your golf cart though...you are right, 2009 was good but your 2011 is even better! TFS!

That is cool that you posted those! I have had bad luck too and sometimes just want to give up totally. Knowing you "pros" go through this too helps me stay with it! I think your cookies are fab! The first gopher looks fine...really pretty darn good...it was a bold move and something I would never even attempt so BRAVO for you!

Everything is a learning experience, so you win some and lose some, that's only human. I still don't think your gopher cookies are "bad" just not as AMAZING as your golf carts...and I think your 2009 golf carts are wonderful and your new golf carts even better than those.

I totally knew it was a gopher! :-)

The golf carts are adorable.

Your gopher looks like (not like, but you know what I mean) the lego-head cookies I made last year. Instead of settling for the dot-eyes and small smile, I went full force into the beards, cocked eyebrows, angry eyes, teary eyes, etc. They did not work. I'm getting ready to make another batch for my son's birthday, and this time it will be the lego-classic-guy (a la Callye). I know my limitations!

The golf carts (both) are FANTASTIC.

I am impressed either way! And thanks for all the inspiration along the way!

I think if you hadn't added the extra texture on your gophers they would have been absolutely adorable! Sometimes adding extra details makes things over complicated...at least that's what I've learned in my cookieing!

That's funny! Looks some cookies I have created! We call them "eaters" -- eat them before someone else sees them. Thanks for posting!

Pam, even though you weren't able to replicate the photo to your liking - I'm sure the cookie was still heavenly tasty!

Both your golf carts look great. The 2011 cart's colors pop-up brighter.

Thanks for sharing your creations with us!

Great post Pam! It's good to know that all your creations aren't perfect and there is hope for the rest of us! :-)

aw Pam, I don't think it's a bad cookie, but I TOTALLY hear you about being a replicator of drawings and clip art!! People and animal faces are tough, one misplaced nose, eye, or mouth and you can wind up with one weird lookin' cookie...
