Seeing Stars......

I had an order for star cookies with names on them. I was able to use gold luster dust and disco dust. I wish the photo did them justice.

For a great video on applying luster dust, go here. I use almond extract instead of vodka to apply the luster dust. Then I used that same wet brush to add the disco dust randomly to the stars. You could also add the disco dust dry.

I'm finally baking again today......so we'll have some more cookies and tutorials coming up. My house is nice and clean and I'm feeling ambitious again. I've got lots of spring ideas. Can't wait!

Love the stars....but I have to say I am a bit leery about using the dusts now. I had my first customer complaint about disco dust. She loved the cookies to death, but after eating them her lips swelled up and she ended up with sores in her mouth! I was mortified.

She has had my cookies before without a problem, so I know it wasn't the cookies, the icing, etc. She said the only ones she had eaten were the ones with disco dust. Have you ever run into this? Now I am paranoid and I didn't use it all for my Valentine's cookies and I bought a bunch of pink and red just for that!

I read recently that the actual ingredient of the edible glitter I love is plastic, not sugar. Do you know anything about that?

I am so upset--I LOVE the dusts and glitter.

Wow GTB, that IS scary. I just did a search on whether or not the dusts are safe to eat. Everything I read said that it is indeed plastic particles. Many compared it to kids eating glue or those silver dragees that we ate when we were a kid....but now they say they are just for decorating. Hmmm.....I guess I'll have to rethink whether or not I will continue to use it. Thanks for the heads up.
