You know what that means? The sky's the limit. Any cookie shape you have in your head is doable! You just have to decide how you are going to make it happen.
For example......sometimes I'm picky about certain aspects of a shape. So after I cut out the cookie, I change it with my own bare hands. hee hee
For some reason, I don't like the rounded bottom of this mitten shape......
so I just took a knife and pushed it up against the bottom to flatten it. Then I squared the sides to make it more boxy looking. And ta-da........it looks the way I want it to.
And here is how it turned out all decorated...........
Some of you may be thinking....."Boy, who cares if it is rounded or boxy on the bottom." If you're thinking that.....I appreciate your flexibility and ability to "go with the flow". However, in my way of thinking.....if I'm going to take the time to make dough, roll it out, cut a shape, bake it, put various colors of icing in bags and pipe it on the shape, and then clean up the mess........then I want it to look exactly the way I prefer in my head. Maybe it is just me, but why go to all the trouble if I'm not as happy with it as I can be.
More about cutting shapes coming soon.
Here's another cookie from my winter 2011 collection.
And lots more photos ahead. Yesterday I had a blast doing a new cookie collection. Today I hope to do another. Yes......2011 is going to be a great cookie year. :)

Oh how I LOVE the sled! Is that a sled cutter, or did you "work some magic" with another shape? I am pretty new to the world of cookie decorating & only recently discovered your blog, and I must say I have so enjoyed seeing all your gorgeous creations here and on Facebook!
You would probably be interested in this instructable:

where you make your own cookie cutters. There are lots of techniques out on the interwebs. There are other frustrated bakers out there that have reached the limitations of standard cookie cutters! Nonconformist bakers unite! Break free from the mold (ha ha!).
I haven't begun to try mixing, matching, and going outside the box with cookie cutters because as a beginner I'm too busy practicing the basics....and copying (with credit of course) you and others like Bridget and SweetSugarBelle. So I have to ask, WHAT did you use for the sled rope?
Thank you so much for doing this series - loving it!!
I thought I was the only one with this sickness!!! Love it! And I care about little things like rounded edges too!
Thanks everybody.
Callye....you and I think a LOT a like. :)
Raegan....thanks for the link. I'll have to check it out. But I really don't need to MAKE cutters too. lol
The sled is hand cut using a template.
The sled rope is just a brown line with tan stripes.
Aimee....I'm having a blast! Today I started taking pics of actual decorating. Yippee!

I just found your AWESOME blog, and OMG, you are one SUPER talented lady! I don't know a thing about decorating cookies like you do so I'm very appreciative of the step-by-step way you're describing the process.
I am, however, an avid cupcake baker/decorator and I'd like to pass some information on to you. If you'd like, check out this site (link below) for getting your cookie boxes. This company is fantastic; they have the best pricing of anywhere that I've found (and believe me I compared a LOT of box companies) they ship faster than fast, and shipping is FREE (continental U.S.)! Here's that link:

I can't wait to see what you'll post next!
Thanks to all of you.
Rosie.....welcome aboard. Glad to have you here.
That's so cool that you recommended brpboxshop.com. I was just getting ready to have them send me some samples....because another cookie friend recommended them. Your note confirmed that I should try them, so I ordered samples last night. I can't wait! Thanks for the tip. :)
great seeing your creative ideas!
