Gone Buggy!

I've had a blast with this batch of cookies because I could do whatever I wanted. (The last several weeks I've been filling orders and keeping up with the Easter requests.)

I used some new cutters from Ecrandal Originals (tulips, mod flower, butterflies, and bees) and loved every second of it!

Here's the tulips. This is one HUGE cookie at five inches tall! My biggest fans that love big cookies are going to love these. :-)

I wasn't sure what to do with it since there is not a lot you can do with a tulip.....but I just kept it simple and added favorite.

Here's two of my birdhouses.

Mod flowers (ecrandal cutter) are huge and fun!

I modified my other flowers and made the center a patch. :-)

OK....these little 2" flower cookies are so fun. As you can see....I couldn't stop taking pics of them. Very photogenic little guys.....

THEN.......I did LOTS of bugs. Look out.....I went camera CRAZIE today. :-)

Snails..... (I definitely plan to improve their eyes next time) you like them better with "legs" or without?

Dragonflies again.....

Here's some bees using the ecrandal cutter. I love these little guys.
Look out....the swarm has arrived. :-)

Butterflies......another fabulous ecrandal cutter. I made stithced Bflies and then some more intricate ones.

Regular ladybugs this time (as opposed to pastel "spring-y" ones).....

And finally.....I took all the bugs and gathered them in my new photo box together. What fun!

Can you tell I'm enjoying this immensely. :-)

Thanks Bea. I love those "pillars" and "ladies" too. :-)

Claudia....that was your first attempt? You did TERRIFIC! I wish I could have read your notes, but I don't speak Italian. ;-) I'm so glad you've jumped in there and tried your hand at decorating. Practice, practice, practice.....that's what makes you improve. Go Claudia!

What a wonderful group of cookies for us to admire today!

Please tell me how you get your purple icing to stay purple! I made some yesterday for butterflies, and it looks nearly gray today. I used Americolor Regal Purple in Toba's Glace' (with milk). I used Wilton White in the whole batch before adding other color.

I really love the detail on your tulips! I like the swirl on your snails. The detailed butterflies are beautiful and I do like the little feet on your caterpillars!

Thanks so much to the one who left an anonymous comment.

I don't like Americolor's Regal Purple either. It is way too blue-ish for me.....not really purple.

I use Wilton's Violet food paste in a little tub. Works perfectly. :-)

Thanks for all your kind words. I appreciate knowing what people like because I doubt myself constantly. Yesterday was one of those down days where nothing looked right on my cookies. Hopefully I'll stay away from those kind of days. ;-)

Hi, Anonymous was me, Cindy -- somehow the name fell off my post.

I'll try the Wilton violet. Is Wilton your color brand of choice, or do you have other favorites?

Gosh, I don't know how you could doubt yourself with that bunch of cookies -- they look fab to me!

Hi Cindy (much nicer name than anonymous ;-))

My favorite brand of coloring is Americolor gel drops. I only use the Wilton violet because I dislike both Americolor Regal Purple and Violet. Neither of them give me the purple I'm looking for.

I guess we all doubt our work at times. Being a perfectionist (seems most decorators are one!) definitely has some drawbacks.

Now that I think about it, I did have a busy week lol! I did all of them from the turquoise monet platter to the dump trucks since last Sunday. I have been so busy I didn't even notice, LOL. Explains the piles of laundry and the condition of my house though!. Next week will be much slower. I stumbled into this by accident and I just love it so sometimes I don't even notice I am working so hard. Easter was a little tough, however. I did like 600 cookies for all of the school parties on Tursday, and frankly I got a bit bored doing the same old thing, and I really had to limit my detail out of practicality, which kind of spoils the fun. I have upcoming projects that include a cockatiel platter, and a drum platter. Any ideas?

Callye, let's continue this great discussion in email. My email address is:

I know what you mean about not even noticing.....I get so involved in my cookies that everything else is invisible. When I come up for air I realize how much I've neglected.

600 cookies! Wow. I was tired of Easter cookies after the couple hundred I did, so I know exactly what you mean.

And yes....the details are the fun. But sometimes I go way overboard and it is beyond not profitable the things I will do for a cookie! lol
