Another attempt at the same Christmas cookies.

I only used shiny hard icing and they turned out better than last time. I'm getting the hang of the thicker icing for the embellishments.....still not as 3D as with the butter/shortening icing or the royal icing.....but good enough. :-))))
Look at this awesome snowflake. The only thing I didn't like about it is it breaks easy if you try to pick it up by one of the points. :-( I ended up with 2 instead of 3, but learned from my mistake.

And look how cute these snowmen heads turned out with ear muffs!!!

Another top hat snowman. :-)

Some other close-ups.

I only have plans for one more batch of Christmas cookies....and that is with my girls tomorrow or Tuesday. They want to "play" and not make "formal" cookies like me.....so I'm not sure I'll take pics. We'll see.
Merry Christmas to you all! Remember the real reason for the season......JESUS came to earth to make a way for us to be God's children. :-)

Can't get enough Christmas :-)

Another try.....two more planned. :-) Cookies are wanted everywhere, you know.....especially this time of year. I'm lovin' in. Lots of practice time. Plus I can try new things.

This time around I ditched the gingerbread men just to simplify the mix.....didn't have to make brown TOO. lol But added more snowflakes and boy, do I love how they turn out. That edible glitter is awesome.

I only used shiny, hard icing this time....no butter or shortening icing on top. I've got to work on perfecting the shiny hard for the piped details on top since the shiny hard wants to flatten. The snowmen's carrot noses are just not the same....they look like little round balls with the shiny, hard icing!

I need it to be thicker, but pipe-able. I hope to just stay with this icing along since I love it so much. The shortening icing I've been using just doesn't cut it.....too greasy, and the colors are not as vibrant as with the shiny, hard. Practice, practice, practice.

I'm decorating more today.....so we'll see if I can get better at this.

Practice makes perfect......or so they say

My friend, Shelby, and I had a blast the other day making cookies together. :-) Here's my second attempt at Christmas cookies this season. I used shiny hard icing this time.....and they are decidely different than those with royal icing from last time.
I tried something new......little snowman heads on a circle cookie. Shelby and I agree they will be a regular Christmas cookie from now on. They are SO cute....especially those carrot noses. hee hee

Gingerbread House :-)

My daughter, Allison, and I started a tradition with a good friend, Pam, to make gingerbread houses at the first of December. This was our second year.....and oh what fun it was.
I made some gingerbread men and decorated them so that we'd have some for our houses and also I could give away some as ornaments on my cookie mix jars I make for Christmas presents.
Here's a front view of the house. Notice the Jujubes around the roof. I attached them to black licorice making them look like a string of lights. :-))))
Side view:
Back yard complete with a candy cane/licorice fence and a snowman, care of Allison.
"Aerial" shot showing the pond made of melted jolly ranchers.
Is this little ginger the cutest surrounded by a gumball path?
Here's Pam's beautiful church complete with stained glass window panels in the font and on the sides. She always does such a nice job.
Merry Christmas!

Christmas At Last!

I made my first Christmas cut-outs this week. :-))))) It was very fun. And the best part is that I made them for Treat the Troops (http://www.treatthetroops.org/ ) and sent them on Thursday and Friday. Our church's goal was to send 100 boxes this month (5 dozen in each box) and we sent nearly 200 boxes!!!!! We figured out we made at least 10,200 cookies. That is so amazing that we could pull together for such an effort.

Since I knew these were going to Iraq I made royal icing. I was pleased with their outcome....although I know I need to practice more to perfect my Christmas cookies. I'm sure I'll get plenty of opportunties in the next few weeks. Hurray! I love this time of year.
